Sept. 22, 1942: The original Los Angeles Times caption said:

SEEKING HOME–This black and white dachshund puppy is one of 100 dogs for which homes are sought during the current National Dog Week. She and the others may be seen at the City Animal Shelter.

A short story in the Sunday, Sept. 20, 1942, Los Angeles Times had previously reported:

Every dog–so the saying goes–has his day….

But in Los Angeles, beginning today, Fido will have an entire week.

The 15th annual observance of National Dog Week will be held here with “Every Dog Needs a Good Home” as the theme.

Open House will be held at the Animal Shelter, 215 W. Ann St., from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
